Bruney Re-signs to Avoid Arbitration

Brian Bruney, the righty reliever, has signed a 1.25 one-year million dollar contract with the Yankees. The Yankees have no more players that are up for arbitration.

Projected Rotation

  1. C.C. Sabathia
  2. A.J. Burnett
  3. Chien-Ming Wang
  4. Andy Pettitte
  5. Joba Chamberlain

Yes or No?

Andy Pettitte Signs

It finally happened. Andy Pettitte signed a one-year, 5.5 million dollar contract with the Yanks. Although disagreeing about how much Pettitte should have gotten, since he received 16 million last year from the Bronx Bombers, he is in Pinstripes once again. Apparently Brian Cashman would not go over 10 million for Andy's contract, but I'm just happy to see Pettite return on the right team.

Opinion: What About Bobby Abreu?

Bobby Abreu has not been talked a lot during the off-season. I personally believe he did a tremendous job with the Yankees the past 2 and a 1/2 seasons. I do not get why the Yankees would not want to sign him again, or any other team for that matter. He is a great 3-spot hitter, he doesn't swing at bad pitches, and he hits all over the field. Abreu is pretty quick for a bigger guy, and his fielding is phenominal. So yes, I would like the Yankees to reconsider him being their right-fielder. I like Xavier Nady, but I would rather have Bobby Abreu out there anyday.

Nady and Melky Avoid Arbitration

First of all....I have absolutely no idea what arbitration is.
I tried to look it up on Wikipedia, but it did not give me a straight answer.
Anyway...
Although Xavier Nady has been talked of recently about rumors with Nick Swisher about trades, he has signed a one-year 6.65 million dollar deal with the Yanks.
Melky Cabrera, who didn't have the best year with the Bronx Bombers in 2008, signed a one-year, 1.4 million dollar contract with New York.
One more Yankee is up for arbitration, and that guy is Brian Bruney, who spent most of the 2008 on the DL.

Yankees Off-Season So Far

The New York Yankees have spent a lot of money this off-season, but they spent their money on quality players.
C.C. Sabathia was their target since the end of the season. He of course, wanted to play in the National League preferably on the West Coast; both of which categories the Bombers are not a part of. In the end (on December 18th precisely), Sabathia signed with the Yankees to a seven-year, 161 million dollar contract which is the largest contract for a pitcher in MLB history.
A.J. Burnett was "next on the list" of Yankee signings. He too, (on December 18th), signed a five-year, 82.5 million dollar contract with the Yanks.
Mark Teixeira is last on the list of signings (for now). No one thought that Mark Teixeira was going to sign with the Bronx Bombers, for there was nothing in the media saying that the Yanks were even making a pull for Tex. But the Yankees swooped in and picked up Teixeira for an eight-year 180 million dollar contract that was signed on January 6th, 2009.

Now what is to come for the Yankees?
I guess we'll just have to wait and find out.
